Alpaca (Hyacaya) (Lama pacos), white alpaca. Alpaca is a domesticated species of South American camelid. Alpacas are kept in herds on the level heights of the Andes and were bred specifically for their fiber. There are two types of alpacas, the Huacaya and the Suri. They differ in the structure of fiber: The Huacaya alpaca has a fine, uniformly crimped fiber (crimp) and few guard hairs (top hairs), which are very fine. The animals are usually shorn once a year. The raw wool can be make into high-quality alpaca yarn. Also in Germany are held increasingly more alpacas, partly as a hobby, some for breeding. There is a worldwide demand for alpaca wool in textile industry. Apart from silk and cashmere alpaca fiber is one of the most precious natural fibers. Softness, delicacy and an indescribable brilliance made it so popular. Today there are more than 22 natural colors of alpaca fiber. In colors from a deep black, brown, gray or pinkish gray to pure white. Alpaca wool has the best thermal properties. The inside hollow fibers stored body heat at cold. Das Alpaka ist eine aus den suedamerikanischen Anden stammende, domestizierte Kamelform, die vorwiegend ihrer Wolle wegen gezuechtet wird. Es gibt zwei Alpakatypen, das Huacaya und das Suri.
